About John Terry

February 8th, 2010

I’ve read so much about John Terry over the past number of days.

I’ve listened to just about everyone who claims to be a pundit on something pontificating about him.

I watched Football Focus and was shocked to hear a few very knowledgeable former footballers judge John Terry instead of leaving the subject alone.

If you notice, I’ve inserted this post under Business because that is exactly what John Terry is involved in, one of the biggest and most enjoyable businesses in the world for both players and fans.

John Terry won his way into a top football team because he excelled as a footballer and later became Captain because he was an excellent leader.

He was appointed as Captain of England because he was considered to be the most suitable player for the job and proved them right.

He subsequently lost his Captaincy because of his behaviour off the pitch.

If he was a Captain of Industry or a movie star and behaved as he did would he have been sacked by his Board of Directors or failed to get any further star roles?

Damned right he wouldn’t if he was delivering a high dividend to his shareholders and attracting a large viewing audience.

Nor would his life style have been a bad role model to any young people who were aspiring CEO’s or movie stars.

Look, John Terry is a professional footballer and is the ultimate role model on the pitch for every young person who aspires to football greatness.

So what if he has cheated on his Wife or got drunk and scrapped or wee’d in a pint pot. Have you never act like a prat when you’ve been pissed out of your head?

Like any other successful person he’s simply media fodder because he sells newspapers, magazines and entices everyone to watch News Channels.

His life style off the pitch will not discourage one single young person from aspiring to be another John Terry the footballer.

Fabio Capello was wrong to relieve John Terry of his duties as Manager because he judged him on his life style off the pitch, that is, frankly in my opinion, none of his business providing his life style doesn’t adversely affect his game on the pitch.

Mr Capello has proven himself to be either a hypocritical bigot or a coward if he took instructions from the FA who don’t, incidentally have a sufficiently clean moral track record to judge anyone elses moral standards.

Premier League Football is a Business based on sport, played by super rich young men who have a very short career.

If the success of the England team is to be reliant on players morals I fear a future England Squad will be regularly beaten rotten by most Blue Square teams!

You’ve been professionally bent over the table, Mr Terry by the FA, aided and abetted by a weak Manager who was recently singing your praises.

I sincerely hope you score so many goals for England that they beg you to resume your Captaincy again.

I’d strongly advise you to tell them to stuff it where the sun don’t shine.

Of course you’ve wronged your Wife and children but that’s entirely a personal thing between you and your family, so take a little private time, fix your personal life and choose your future friends wisely.

Incidentally although I don’t support Chelsea, I get a lot of pleasure watching them play – they’re a cracking team!

I paid my Phone Bill today and guess what?

February 3rd, 2010

I thought seeing I’d levelled a fair criticism against British Telecom a couple of days ago it was time to pay my bill before I was disconnected.

I spoke to a charming lady called Julie, chatted to her for a few minutes, paid my bill and explained why I had publicly complained.

We discussed my account including my BT Broadband connection that frankly I’ve never had a problem with and she suggested a number of ways by which I could reduce my monthly bill.

I thought nothing more of it until she telephoned me an hour later and made me smile with delight when she told me that my bill would be approximately £9 less each month from now on.

When I added the VAT there was a monthly saving of £9.50.

After criticising them publicly they actually rewarded me by giving me £114 a year.

A good days work by all.

Thanks Julie.

I’ve never had anyone from British Gas, Yorkshire Water or my Council Tax office telephone me to explain how I can save money!

Thanks BT shame you don’t have another couple of hundred Julies!!

Was 2009 a bad year?

Was 2009 a bad year?

If 2009 was a bad year for you it no longer matters because it’s long gone, never to return so why not make 2010 the best yet?

The fact that you may not have been particularly successful or derailed your plan of action can always be remedied but only if you want to.

Don’t ever have the arrogance to put the blame on anyone else.

You are the only one who decides where you’re going whether it’s personal or business, in fact you’re the reason 2009 was a bad year.

Be brutally honest with yourself

Go stand in front of the nearest mirror and ask your reflection what you need to change to make 2010 the best year yet.

If 2009 was a bad year and you don’t want a repeat, don’t leave that mirror until you have the answer because you, my friend are going nowhere until you work it out.

It doesn’t matter whether you messed up on a personal or business basis to make 2009 a bad year, it’s all about your new plan of action to make 2010 the best year yet that will determine the outcome.

If you associated with someone during 2009 and feel that they contributed to your bad year, you have two choices:

  • Continue your association and go down with them during 2010.
  • Take the only positive action open to you and arrange a meeting, eye ball them and calmly explain why you’re disassociating from them and admit the fact that a great deal of the blame why 2009 was a bad year lies with you because you initially agreed to the association.
  • Alternatively, explain that you can’t afford another bad year and in order to make 2010 the best year yet, you’ve worked out a plan of action for the business. If he / she is willing to work like hell with you, 2010 really will become the best year yet.

Where Business decisions are concerned: You alone are responsible for achieving your goals and should avoid associating with anyone who can hinder your achievement.

Although 2009 was a bad year always remember how you made 2010 the best year yet and 2011 an even better one.

I chose Work instead of my Wife

January 31st, 2010

I chose Work instead of my Wife

Although Christmas day is without doubt my favourite day of the year it highlighted a major fault of mine – I had committed the grievous sin of work before Wife.

My lovely Wife starts thinking about what Christmas presents the family will receive sometime after my birthday in August and has finished her Christmas shopping by the end of October.

Around late November I give the odd thought to what I’ll buy my Wife and still don’t have a clue when December is halfway through.

I had a major problem this Christmas: I knew the big day was close but was so busy at work that I didn’t unfortunately realise until Wednesday 23rd that the next day, Thursday was Christmas Eve and for the first time I had put work before Wife.

Did I panic or did I panic?

I never make excuses for being an enthusiastic workaholic nor does my Wife ever criticise me for being this way.

When you love what you do, time doesn’t matter, in fact time often seems to stand still for days on end, particularly when you’re work is all about launching a brand new Product that you know will be bought by tens of thousands.

Anyway I decided to come clean with my Wife when I finished work just after 9pm on the 23rd December and do my work before Wife confession.

I should explain: My Home Office is attached to our house so I see my wife three or four times each day when she feeds and waters me.

The best Christmas present yet

When I’d finished my confession that fantastic Wife of mine just burst out laughing and told me that she absolutely loved the present I’d bought her.

Was I going mad? I knew I was so wrapped up in what I’d been doing that I rarely knew what day it was and started to question my sanity.

Had I ordered her anything? Surely I hadn’t been out, bought her something and couldn’t remember.

The truth was revealed: My Wife had bought herself something she really wanted and was so delighted that for the first time she knew what Christmas present I’d bought her while I didn’t.

I didn’t find out until Christmas morning when we opened our presents. You’ve guessed, I didn’t even consider the work before Wife that morning although I was bugging to read my emails.

I thought while many other women would have gone to town to teach their husbands a well deserved lesson, I was dragged back into the real world with a hearty laugh and promised myself that this situation would never reoccur.

When I finish writing this piece the term work before Wife will cease to exist!

The Moral to this Story

I try to live my life, both Private and Business showing that Actions Speak Louder than Words.

I decided I had to get my ass in gear!

When you get really engrossed in work you really love, it just never seems like work.

You’re successful and are surrounded with what you believe to be the greatest team in the world.

You’d rather cut off your little finger than let any member of your team down and they know it and return the respect.

It isn’t all about Money – providing you’re not skint!

While you’re concentrating on this, you may have a Wife or Partner at home or under the same roof who sees less of you than those you work alongside every day.

Please don’t forget: It’s not about all the money you earn to create a secure life for your family when you put work before Wife.

It’s rather about the little things you say to and do for your family that means more to them than anything else in the world.

Don’t ever put your work before Wife or family, because when you do, immaterial of how successful your Business is, you feel a real loser.

Finally, I can honestly say that my Wife is more important than a dozen successful Businesses or Domains and have vowed never again to put work before Wife or family.
